K&N CAI

K&N CAI
I am looking for the real scoop on this one. From what K&N says about the gains in hp and torque, something like around 9 hp more, I can't see any benefit to putting one on my truck. I have heard that the hotter air around the engine causes performance problems. I put a K&N cai on my 05 Hemi Magnum because it's rated to get around 21 hp more..plus I got it at a good price $180. I have a drop in K&N on my Ram but I just don't see why lots of guys around here spend well over $200 for only 9 hp gain. Am I off on this? I did put on a Fastman TB and noticed the difference, but I am not sure anyone sees the difference w/the K&N cai on the Ram.

RE: K&N CAI
Thanks guys. I think I'll look into the round setup as it looks much easier to install. I sure do wish I could find one that would fit my 73 Charger. I found an el cheapo at Advance, but the carb adaptor is funky and won't allow the hood to close completely. I'll wait until I do something w/the carb, right now it has the stock Holley 2210. The car is all original 119k on the 400 cid. Thinking about doing some engine work and a carb change this summer to get more hp.

The round ones can be alittle tricky too.. you need to use an "S" bolt..but its just a few minutes of bending a 1/4" threaded rod. On my truck.. the wiring harness was making it very hard to get the top on the AC..so when I had the intake off I used some clamps to move the harness out of the way more to make it easier to get the whole unit on and off..
