Strange but kind of cool
Tonight when I was finishing washing the truck with some spray on wax, I thought I was seeing stuff. I was wiping the hood down, and then I looked carefully, and sure enough, I was right. There are racing stripes on this truck. They are extremely subtle. It's in a sparkly metalic finish, and you can only notice it if your very close to the paint. I got up on the bed, and they went right down the roof as well. They aren't on my tailgate though because I had it repainted last summer, but I'm sure they were there. You would never notice them if you didn't own the truck, but I just noticed after almost a year of owning the truck that there were stripes. Pretty weird, can't complain I guess, I like how they aren't noticable. Besides that, I got the truck all dolled up. Handwashed her, did some quick detail spray on the paint, armor alled the interior and door jams, and I cleaned up the wheels and tires and sprayed tire shine on the tires. The tires themselves do look really nice all cleaned up, but I only did it to help get me through till Wednesday lol. The procomps are supposed to be here Wednesday morning. I think it will be just right. They are a 33/12.5/17. So I'll have the same width as the 35s were, but they'll be 33s, which should look the same as the 35s did because the truck has been lowered. I've all decided that if I still think the truck looks weird after the 33s, I am going to have a 1" coil spacer put in the front just to give it a slight kick in the front, and then I'm just moving on.[8D]
Weird...I'm kinda surprised, as you are, that you haven't noticed them by now. I bet it probably looks kinda cool though when you can see it; probably really sparkles in the sunlight. I think you're going to be fine with the 33's man. The next time I get some new tires I'm going with 33's as well. I'd really like to get another couple of inches of lift in the front end of my truck; I'm thinking about replacing the 3 inch spacer with just some 4-5" lift coil springs. I still gotta look into it all and see what all I would have to replace, but I think yours will look good with the 33's. I washed and waxed mine too today and that is always a satisfying sight.
before you owned it obviously. I'm not suggesting the racing-stripe fairy paid you a visit and then reneged on her offer.
a thin coat of paint could show stripes through from underneath. It's also possible the stripes might have been put on and then taken off and it left a "residue". Don't you have the crazy "Off Road" decal with a yellow star on the passenger side airbag? Obviously the previous owner did some modding of his own. I don't know why anyone would go to the trouble of putting stripes on that are so subtle that you didn't notice them for a year.
