I have gotten anywhere from 15-18 driving "normally" and have been getting 21MPG driving like a "Grandma" even though its tough, plus I also let the truck warm up(200 degrees)before I take off- even though its been in the 50s at night and in the 70s in the daytime. I found that with my gears(3.55s) and stock 245/45R16 tires that about 60-65 is where I get the best economy- windows up, vent on medium. My truck is obviously a 2wd and has the 5.2 engine with no mods- other than a missing cold air tube on the airbox. Granted its hard to keep my foot out of it, but the rewards are worth it to me! I also only have 68K miles on it.

I've been getting 18. Basically, I drive at 55 MPH all the time, coast in nuetral down hills (I really like having the manual transmission), always shift when that little orange up light comes on, and always have the windows up unless I am on my driveway, or going through town (25 MPH around here).

I'm pretty impressed with that, as it's a big 4X4 truck. Once I get the Ranger fixed, I'm going to compare though, as the Ranger is an automatic with a few mods done (no engine mods, just aesthetics and suspension), and lately, it has been getting 16-18, but also hasn't been running all that great.

At $85 per tank, I try to spread it out as much as possible. If I can get to 450 miles out of a single tank, then I will be happy. so far, I only need about 50-70 more miles out of each tank . Well, actually, I am happy with the truck anyway.

I'm sure my mileage will go down once I get my topper and rack, though, but that's fine.

I don't know if this is possible with the older 2 generation rams. My 2wd 95 gets at best 18 and usually hits in the 15-18 range depending on traffic.

I think I picked up 1 mpg with the new cat and muffler (Super 44), but the old ones were 13 years old and plugged up.

Love your truck. Don't worry about the mpg, especailly if you have a 4wd.

Gas saving tip: don't coastdown hills in neutral. With a vast majority of fuel injected vehicles (and I'm assuming these trucks do it), when you're coasting in gear, the PCM shuts off fuel to the injectors--no fuel is needed because the wheels are driving the engine. When you coast in neutral, it needs fuel to keep the engine running. Automatics don't do this as well as manuals, but coasting in gear essentially gives you infinity miles per gallon (or 0 GPM, depending on how you do the math). Keep it in gear and your foot off the accelerator when you'regoing down hills andyour mileage should improve.

Also, coasting in neutral allows you to generate a lot more speed than when you'rein gear. If you need to stop or slow down at the bottom of that hill, it's going to be much harder on your brakes.

Just some thoughts.
