Default Ram 1500 should I buy?

Ok I have been desperately looking for a 4x4 truck. I found one today I like a whole lot but was wondering what you guys though about it. KBB says it is worth about $15,000 to $16,000 private party or $18,120 or something dealer retail. Well this guy wants $19,000 or best offer he kept saying or best offer like he was expecting to come down somem. It is a 2001 Ram 1500. I had heard people I know having tranny problems with theres but If I remember correctly I read they fixed it in 2000. It is a SLT Laramie appeared to have cloth seats. I wanted leather but cloth is ok and I'm thinking cloth may be better. It has a 3in Skyjacker lift with 33inch bf goodrich tires. It has 56,000 miles and the 5.9L 360 engine. It also had the trailer hitch and all but most trucks do and a dual exhaust. The exhaust looked exactly like the flowmasters on a friends F-150 and I think thats what they are. The came out to each side but behind the rear wheel it also had a bed cover one of those ones that goes flat and you can open it like a trunk. He says he had the odometer and stuff adjusted when he lifted it and put diff size tires on it so that the milage is the actual milage and that he bought it new in 01 and never been in an accident. Everyone tells me on here with the F-150 I almost bought it wasn't worth what KBB said but he sold it for about $1500 more than that or is what he wanted and wouldn't come down so I assume he sold it for that much more and none of the ones I can find are in good shape near what KBB says. I think trucks may just cost more in my area versus in Texas and places they seem cheaper. My worries are what kind of gas milage will this thing get? Also will it do ok offroad and towning a trailer and going on trips and stuff like that? I will mainly be using this as my main vehicle probably although I we do have a car also. I'm also worried as one of my friends said he wouldn't buy a lifted truck because they wear out the ball joints or something a lot faster and are hard on the driveshaft. Do you guys think this would be a good truck or should I pass? If it seems like a good truck how much do you guys think it is worth. It appeared to be in good shape a little rust on stuff under it but not much at all basically surface rust on some stuff but really in better shape than most of the trucks I have seen the F-150 I saw was in good shape too but other than that one I haven't seen many in that good of shape.

Default RE: Ram 1500 should I buy?

hey, i have a 2000 ram 1500 4x4 quad cab 360.. right now it has 130K miles on it, and in the shop for a tranny rebuild with nothing but heavy duty parts going in.. im lucky it lasted this long. but the problem was, that it was having a hard time slipping into 3rd gear. very common with daimler chrysler transmissions... i love my dodge though, and i would do this all again, but it lasted me this long because i took care of her every 3k miles., and didnt really beat her up too bad, and the trans slipped on my way home, thank god i was only a couple of hours away. but someone on here told me once that rams have shotty trannies, and that even when you buy a new one fresh off the lot you should have it rebuilt with a heavy duty rebuild kit because the torque converters bite ***... and in turn just start eating everything up in your trans. and i think you should look through here and read what people are saying about their transmissions.. one guy said that he has bought 2 transmissions the dealership, and both **** out on him after 50k something miles. but they are a great truck, and i love them with the 360 in it. but then again. im only 5'3 and anything thats bigger and better fits my personality much better.
but in any case, i think that guy is asking for a hair too much, i got mine for 14k 2 years after the guy bought it, and its gone across the country 6 times, and only up untill now did i have this problem with the trans, and its costing me a bundle because there are a ton of electrical compnents inside the trans that pop up when there is something wrong, but if its mechanical no code will pop up.. and they still charge you and arm and a leg to do the electrical part of it.. in my opinon, and dodge ram is a commitment, marriage type stuff LOL, but she has never let me down, made it back home so i could take her to the shop, and this just happened on friday night, but i think you can talk that guy down, and i suggest you look at it.. there may be mods that are not listed that he sunk money into, and you should show him the blue book value to his face.
anywhere from 14,500 to 16K sounds reasonable. but a dealership will offer you awarranty if anything should go wrong. so weigh your options, and research this, and look up your recall list on this truck, so if there is anything wrong with it you can get it fixed. from what i hear from my brother who works for dodge, the 01 has a couple issues, that are not harmful to the truck, just make it read a little funny, and make it act like its running lean, and that is the vacuum hoses on it. they go bad pretty easily, but if you know what to do under the hood it will only cost a couple of bucks each time. the vacuum hose is sold at autozone for like 13cents an inch.. but this is what i know about dodge, and even with the certain problems, i will never turn my back on it even if its trans ****s out again ill pay the 2k to have it done all over. plus ive invested way too much cash into this beast now on mods, and electrical stuff.
so youve heard it from one person now, and just ask around, and read whjat people are saying.. if your wondering why this sounds like a gay dude talking its because im a girl that has short woman power issues.
have a good day, and if you have any other questions you want to ask, i know a couple great people on here that would be more than willing to talk to you about a ram too.

Default OH YEAH!!

ohh yeah almost forgot to tell you the gas mialage sucks, even worse when you have a lift on it.. i get 17 miles highway, about 10 city.
if you are looking for somethingf a little more fuel efficiant i would go with an f150 they have smaller engines, they arent nearly as impressive as a dodge though. heh heh heh
