Default coolant leak chapter 2

Well after tearing some stuff down I found out that my water pump is not leaking but there is a piece of metal behind the water pump that's attached to the block that is. I don't know what to call that piece but it looks like a pita. If anyone has and feedback on this I would love to hear it. Thanks, Aaron.

The part the water pump mounts on? If so it is the timing gear/chain cover and there is water passage's through it. Probably a good idea to replace the timing gears and chain while it's accessible. Also replace the bypass hose, the little one at the top of water pump.

replacing the time chain gasket is easy, but takes about 1 1/2 hours extra to change. You have to pull the harmonic balancer and you'll need a special tool to pull that plus you'll need a large socket and breaker bar to get the bolt off that holds the crank pulley on. I believe its a 1 1/4 inch socket. Use that and a 24" breaker bar.

Changing the timing chain out and putting a new one on is definitely worth it. My truck runs so much smoother since I did that.
