Power Tank
I run an engine driven set up in my Jeep. I converted my AC compressor and when I built my bumpers I plumbed and sealed them for air. have about 8 gallons or so worht of air storage near as i can figure. I lovew then engine driven set up in the Jeep, but for the truck i actually have a working AC so I dont want to convert it. I recently aquired a CO2 tank and regulator that i am planning to mount in my bed box as a powertank then mount a retractable hose reel in there as well so i can fill tires and run air tools from the truck if i have to
I've also thought of getting a Viair 450 but the guy at the 4x shop said I'd probably burn it up trying to air up 35's without a tank. (If I get the Viair, I won't get a tank.) But, the PowerTank means ongoing costs of refilling the stupid thing.
very true. thats why i really like the engine driven set up in my YJ. it works great for filling tires, air mattresses and the like and it powers any air tool i put to it with no trouble. I wouldn't personally run a vaiair or electric set up. seen too many of em burn out. only electric compressor i would run is the ARB compressor but i would only use it to activate my lockers, nothing else. (which i plan to do as i just cant seal all the pinhole leaks in my bumpers no matter how hard i try)
But for the truck, I'd only be using it on rare occassions to fill a tire or run an air tool here and there. so a powertank set up is the way to go for the truck for me

You've seen the Viair's burn up? Do you know what model? I'm leaning towards the 450 which has a 100% duty cycle to help avoid that. It's a little slower than the 400 but it has the 100% duty cycle over the 33% of the 400.
