Default Fuel Pump/Gauge

I've been noticing some strange occurences with my fuel gauge in my truck, and the sound of my fuel pump. Every morning when I go to start the truck, I always let the fuel pump engage before I start the truck. Usually a fuel pump will make a quick noise when it engages. I've noticed that when I allow it to engage, it makes this limp sound, like it's struggling to engage. The first starts of the day are always hard now too. Always take a long cranking for the truck to start, and it doesn't explode either, it just kind of limpdick starts. But all of the other starts are fine. With that said, there is more. My truck doesn't always accurately show how much fuel I have now when I go to start the truck. For instance, I'll know I have a 1/2 tank of fuel, yet it will say it's completely empty, and the empty tank symbol will be lighted up on my gauge cluster. Sometimes it will recover back to where it should be when I drive, while other times it will just say it's empty the entire time. Are these two occurences associated with each other. If or if not, can somebody explain to me what these signs mean? Also, does it sound like my fuel pump is getting ready to go?

go ahead and start savin up, thats what mine did when it started going. Really hard starts, and a slow pump prime. its a bitch replacing by your self so try to have a helper.

The sending unit for the gauge is on the tank, you get a new one with the new pump. just make sure to check all the wires goin into the plug on the pump because if one is loose or scared it will make a short and show inaccurate readings.

Damn. Would a bad fuel pump have anything to do with the engines performance when driving? I notice in overdrive the trucks throttle is very stiff, and everytime I hit a bump it makes my foot hit the throttle. It's only in the overdrive gear though. I can't tell if the transmission, or if it's something else. Thank you for the help though, now I know what to expect sadly, but thankfuly,.
