5.2 just not potent
Hey quick question jus gota 5.2 extented cab 1500 ram it came with a 3" gibson cat back (not my prefernce) hyper tech programer and k&n intake its just got nothing off the line at all its kinda sad. Anyone find anything aside from forced induction that was affective?
My 5.2 is pretty quick (i have driven a fast car), and gets quicker and better mileage as i drive it.
I never expected it to be a race car, but it's better than I expected.

Check your plenum gasket and see if a label with "authorized software update" appears on the computer or under the hood anywhere. This means you might have the "death flash" (retarded timing).

More than likely your truck is like mine was when I purchased it new. Set up for MPG and not HP and torque. Even new, my 5.2 could hardly get out of it's own way from a dead stop. The 5.2, automatic tranny, 3.55 gears, and 5000 pound weight isjustnot a good combination to display or feel power.
Like Viper37 states though. The 318 is a great reliable and steady motor. It's in the class of the Chevy 350 V-8 and the Ford 300 inline 6. All 3 of them need at least a bullet through the block to stop them.

It'll never be a torque monster, but you can regear to 4.10's, add Harland Sharp roller rockers in the 1.7:1 ratio variety, Get an SCT tuner, and add some shorty headers to help out down low, and pull that Stock Fan and put in some electric fans and slot the crank sensor. That'll get it moving down there a bit and it won't feel like a sloth any more.
If you add a Fastman 50mm throttle body and a round air cleaner and open up the exhaust, you'll add some more power but it might move the torque curve up a little higher into the RPM's. Just depends on what you want.

whats the deal with this death code? i actually kick a intermitent engine light for the cam sensor but ive changed the cam and crank sensor twice it will do it here and there for a few days then be gone for two weeks it just comes and goes.
for one im sure he wasnt being a dick but u never know....i have no problems off the line never have even before i added my mods and redone 90% of my gaskets and other repairable stuff now after all thats been worked on and worked out i get a better response and i can get it quickly with my 3.55 gears which suck and im pushin 160k im sure i can do even better soon as i do some more ****....
