Default Tranny not shifting right from 2nd to 3rd

Ok, my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd is having tranny issues. It will shift from 1st to 2nd perfectly, and from 3rd to overdrive just fine. My issue is from 2nd to 3rd.
It will just wind out and not shift unless you let off the pedal and then it will shift. Am I looking at major issues, or could this be something simple like adjustment of some sort? Yes the fluid is full, and I only run atf+4 in it, mopar brand only. Any help would be great, cant really afford a new tranny right now. Thanks

When my Dakota did that (1995 with 5.2), and I had a tranny shop look at it, they said it was a sticky valve inside the tranny. They tried pouring cleaner crap down into it, fixed it for about a week, then it came back. Had it 'till the day I traded it in, never got worse, never got better.

2 -3 shift firmness can be adjusted with a tranny band adjustment but I beleive that's the one inside the pan. Be very careful adjusting it and follow the FSM exactly.
