I hate the hub. Does anyone want mine
I've been trying to replace the ball joints. I can't get the god damned hub off. I've read all of the writeups on it and all of them say to pretty much use the bolts on the back to tap it off. I've done nothing. So I took the bolts off and went and got a master axle puller. It basically hooks on to the studs and then you use a slide hamer to pull the hub off. I've gotten about 2mm of movment after banging on it for a couple of hours what am I missing? I've taken every bolt includeing the hub bolt. I have the truck in four wheel drive so that it will be easier to install the axle shaft. I banged on it so much that now when I try to turn it it gets locked up because the U-joint is binding. Is there a C-Clip inside of the differntial that I have to remove?
Thanks
Chris
I thought I read in one article that you leave the bolts in some, not all the way in, and place a bar between a bolt and a bracket somewhere and then turn the steering wheel. It uses the power steering to press it out. Can't remember the exacts about it but seems familiar.
I'll have to go look and see if thats possible but I've never heard of it. I'm woried that I'm ruining the hub by using the slide hamer.
Yes, you could ruin the hub, im trying to get mine out today too to replace a u joint and this is a brand new hub (15,000 miles ago) I used my puller and it pulled the bearing press, where its not supposed to comeapart so now the hub is shot... kinda hard to explain.

Well I've bent the slide hammer....... I've also busted a screw driver prying behind it.... It's so frustrating. It's not holding on to the axle shaft at all. When I screw it in really far it will actually move the axle shaft back until it binds when you try to turn it. Anyonme have any ideas? I'm going to go and try to find that article at PS.
Keep saoking the hell out of it with PB or Cyclo !&\\;nbsp\\; And keep doing what you are doing, Get it out as far as you can then bolt it back tight, keep repeating the process and it will come out. And keep soaking it.

Yahoo I got it.&\\;nbsp\\; I searched PS for an hour or so until I found the trick.&\\;nbsp\\; So all you do is put the bolts in a little bit behind the hub.&\\;nbsp\\; Then you stick a chunk of metal between the bolt and the ... thing that the ball joints are pressed into.&\\;nbsp\\; Turn the steering wheel and viola.&\\;nbsp\\; Repeat on the other side and you have a hub removed.&\\;nbsp\\; YAy thanks for the help guys.
