A somewhat loud sucking noise is normal. You can hear the air being sucked into the intake.

My K&N Generation I FIPK (very similar to 14x3) on my 1995 Dakota (318) made the same noise. I was worried at first about it, but nope, its normal.

Also check thru the fins and make sure that your TB gasket isn't hanging over into the air column. It will suck but loud sucking indicates a restriction. If you trim theTB gasket or reposition it correctly you can lose a lot of the suction sound.

Normal for an open element to make sucking sounds. When thegasket under themis not centered correctly they tend to whistle If the noise level changes after it warms up, could be a worn plunger on the IAC.

I hate the sucking noise no matter what it does for performance! And be prepared to lose MPG!
