Default Hey, new to the Forum

I just bought my firstram about 8 months ago. Its a 99 1500 reg cab 4x4 intense blue. I love it, but really don't love my MPG but its my daily and I can deal with 14 mpg thanks to a good paying Job Both my Mom and dad have dodges, dad has a 03 1500 reg cab 2wd hemi and a 89 Ram 4x4 that we call old faithful, its got 360k miles on it and still on the origional engine/trany. Nothing on the engine has been apart but the water pump 3 times.. still running strong, starting to use alil oil now but that truck has been a good one. Mom has a 2000 durango. My question is I have gotten my mother talked into swaping engines she has a 360 in her durango and i have a 318 in my truck, both autos. Both around the same milage, what would I have to go though to swap the 360 into my truck and 318 in hers? Would I have to swap PCMs or could I leave my 318 PCM in my truck and run the 360 off it? another thing is The reason I was going to do this I am going to put a lift on it and 35's, I think it wouldnt laber the engine as hard with the 360 in it with the bigger tires. Just a brain fart I had dont know if it would wok or not. Whats your alls suggestions?

Thanks
Evan

Welcome to DF! Please excuse the current forum problems, if you experience them, our admin people are working on it.

Yes, you'd have to exchange the PCMs as well.

There are actually some fundamental differences between the two engines. For example, one is internally balanced and the other externally (can't remember which is which off the top of my head). Do a search here on the forums, several people have done it (or at least asked about it) before.

360 externally balanced, 318 internally balanced. You might not be able to use the PCM interchangeably, you'll have to map out the swap carefully. You're gonna get a good education on the 318 and 360 engines. I believe a guy named Turkeyhunter1962 swapped a ram 328 for a 360. I'd start by picking his brain a bit.
