Road trip... suggestions :)
I'm leaving for my road trip tommorow night and I am trying to make sure everything is as good as it can be under my hood! I was wondering if anybody had any last minute suggestions that I can do easily in about two nights. I'mk looking mostly for a little better gas mileage, but I might get better anyways since I wont be driving in the sierra foothills for a week. Jeeze this place kills your mileage, you go up a hill and then back down just to go back up a bigger hill! I a bone stock 01 5.9 with the exception of a tonneau and a flowmaster exhaust.
Any suggestions!

check the air in your spare. test lowering it down. make sure you have a jack that works and a wrench that fits. loosen/retighten the lugs. check the engine belt, oil, trans fluid, antifreeze, tire pressure. enjoy the trip....
I'd re-gap or replace the plugs, get some fuel cleaner like techron plus in case you have to get some mom and pop gas, check your air filter, make sure you have good tunes and some snacks (healthy trail mix or whole grains
preferably) and don't romp on it too hard.

I did a lot of that stuff last weekend, check the spare and tires regularly, and I'm reinstalling the sirius radio tonight! What kind of beer should I keep on ice in the back seat
And please, no PBR

Charge up your cell and make sure your AAA membership is paid up, it's well worth it IMO for the roadside assistance, repair discounts, motel discounts, etc.
My wife and I actually booked a motel an hour out from where we wanted to stop while driving and they recommended that we stopped early because they didn't have any 3 star motels where we had planned to stop for the night and AAA didn't recommend any lower than that. They were right, we drove straight thru that fleabag town the next morning and kissed that membership card.
Buy a can of fix a flat just in case. And a crappy shirt and a pair of gloves if you have to do any roadside repairs.

ya'll are making me nervous, but yeah I guess I've had to do my fare share of road side fixes. I think my worst was when my trailer brakes caught on fire about 45 minutes outside of china lake. I had to drop the trailer, drive to the base pick new bearings and grease, and drive back to change 'em out in the middle of the fricken desert. And that was on day one of the trip. Went the next two weeks without trailer brakes
Well I made it back, barely! After I got home I noticed my truck was running a little rough and then out off flippin nowhere my check gauges light comes on and what do you know, theres no oil pressure. Aftter over 900 miles without any problems, excluding tranny another story, my oil magically disappears when I get home. I changed my oil yesterday and it had to have been the quickest oil change I've ever done, seeing as there was nothing in it! Theres no oil pools under the truck and not nearly enough in the plenum to justify the four quarts I was down. What could have caused it?
