Default P0720 Code?

A few weeks ago my check engine light came on so I had it scanned and the code was P0720. It does seem to have a little bit of trouble sometimes shifting from 1 to 2 under very light throttle. I don't know if this existed before because I just started accelerating slowly due to the gas prices. With medium to heavy throttle there is no trouble shifting still.

The Dodge Service Manual explains the code as: Low Output Speed Sensor RPM, Above 15mph-The relationship between the output shaft speed sensor and vehicle speed is not within acceptable limits. Output shaft speed is less than 60 rpm with vehicle speed above 15mph (4-speed auto trans only).

Does anyone have any experience with this or have an idea of what it could be? I did install a Trans-Go shift kit about 2-3 years ago. I replaced the rear wheel speed sensor about 5 years ago.

I'm thinking about taking it by the tranny shop that did my shift kit install if a new speed sensor doesn't work.

I'm going to buy a trans speed sensor ($18 at Autozone) and see if a new one fixes the problem.

i threw the same code last summer and the problem was the speed sensor you mentioned. i hope the install goes well. p.s. have a pan ready to catch all the trans fluid.

Changed the sensor yesterday. I reset the PCM and am no longer throwing a code! I also sprayed my O2 sensors with the electric cleaner stuff in hopes of regaining some lost mpg over the past year. I didn't have a pan ready initially (I started before I saw your post!) but recovered before it got too bad.

Now I'm just waiting to install some Pacesetter long tubes. The place I wanted to go won't do it because they the headers don't have a CARB/EO with them. I tried to tell them that my truck isn't registered in CA but they wouldn't have any of it.
