Default Fuel ?'s on '98 360

I just aquired this truck and have noticed a problem. Extended cranking times if I turn the key right to start. Like 3-4 seconds to fire off, but since my previous truck was a diesel one day I turned the key to on and then waited a few seconds beofre I turned it to start..It fired over in no time flat as it should. I have noticed now that if I turn the key to run and wait for the fuel pump to stop running (about 2-3 seconds) and then go it starts just fine. So my question is is there a check valve or something in the fuel line that is faulty ? I dont know much about the fuel system in these trucks as I recently converted over from the Ford side after nearly 20 years of 'em....Any help would be appreciated....
