Default tranny trouble

Hi i am new to this forum. I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9 auto, 4x4. My problem is the tranny will only go it overdrive 60% of the time. Its seems that when it gets warmed up it goes in more often. I bought the truck about 5 years ago with 40,000 miles on it. It has 86,000 on it now. I have never changed the fluid or filter. Do you think that this could be my problem or is it something a little more complicated. thanks chris

Well First off I would change the fluid and filter. I dont remeber the specific intervals but I change mine about once a year. It could be low fluid... For most most 2 gen dodge owners are lucky if they get 130,000 miles out of there trannys. I got about 112,000

I got 138,000 on mine and it was still going strong when I dropped the tranny, I only dropped it because the throw-out bearing went to ****
