Default I solved my headlight problem

Hi all. New member here. I have a '96 Ram 2500 SLT 4x4 with a 360. It's my first truck and I've only had it for a little while. On the way home from 4th of July festivities my headlights went out. I had working parking lights, turn signals, fog lights, tail lights, and brake lights, but no headlights (low or high beams).

Thanks to the posts on this forum I learned that the factory switch is garbage so I pulled it out and saw that the connecter was melted. Also thanks to this forum I learned that LMC Truck has a heavy duty harness with relays that draws from the battery instead of the headlight switch so I ordered it ($30) and a new headlight switch connecter from my local parts store ($40). I didn't buy a new headlight switch because they cost $90-$100. As luck would have it my switch was still good and the melted connecter was the problem.

The harness from LMC was very easy to install (once I got past the poorly translated instructions). After the fiasco of driving home with no headlights I decided to install a backup system, so I installed a KC HiLites SlimLite system directly to the top of my bumper. Another easy install and I think the lights look pretty good and are nice and bright.

So, thanks to everyone. I think that my headlight problems are solved once and for all (knock on wood).

dhvaughan: It's hard to know for sure, but the headlights seem to be a little brighter with the new harness. I've read that others who have relayed the headlights and drawn from the battery have noticed that their lights are brighter. So far I'm pleased with the product. I didn't even have to splice any wires to install it.

dodgeram07: Yeah, my fog lights and parking lights probably saved me from getting pulled over.
