Oh BTW, you can't stroke a 5.2 to a 408 or 426, only to a 390ci. That's a nice little gain for a 318 to 390 though.

LOL swapping badges, good idea. as far as 09 4th gen 1/2ton cummins if i had that much money i'd already have one ordered. 5.9 sounds like a good idea but i like my 5.2. i'll just stick with moddin it. i wonder howmuch it would take to get about 350 horse. thats my goal.

That will take a good bit my friend whether thats 350 at the flywheel or the tires. You will probably have a minimum of 3000$ worth of parts to get the little 318 to put out that kind of power. Krc performance makes the "lightning killer package" which will give you about 300 horse at the wheels, it costs 4800$. But if you have over a 100 thousand miles on your engine you should freshen up the bottom end and slap some nice pistons in it for a little extra insurance.

Just order a crate 408 stroker and a procharger and you will be doing laps around hemi's

EDIT: after reading that i cantreally do much to my 318 maybe i should just get a 360 put in and then build it? even though there isent muchdifference between the 2 or would it be cheaper just to build up the 318 into a "mini meany" im just looking for something to do to this truck to have fun on the weekends at the track. eat up the hemis and burnup the ricers. but at the same time drive it when need be. i'll put it to yall like this. with about $2500 howmuch hp could i get out of my 318? sorry im just a little confused at the moment.

Depends. How much can you do yourself? For example, being able to port and port match your own heads and regrind the valves will save you close to $1,000. Machine shops typically charge about $500 for long block assembly. So if you can do those two things, you can spend your whole $2,500 on machine work and parts. You can get the block tanked & punched, pistons pressed and rotating assembly balanced for about $500. Engine kit will run about $250-$300 W/O pistons & cam. Some decent KB pistons will run about $400 w/ rings. Mopar or Isky cam, $200. That leaves you $1,000 for things like MSD wires & coil, bigger throttle body, performance computer, etc.

Basically, you could make 350 HP and 400 ft/lbs on your budget if you can do most of the work yourself.

thats where equipment comes into fall which i dont have, i got the tools to take it apart but then sending it off to have it done, midas well just take the whole truck in to have it done. then again my 318 has 160K so would i be better off just having it rebuilt then worked on?

ORIGINAL: motorbrreath

1/2 ton wont support the diesel and the power it makes properly. to do the conversion youll have to buy a wrecked truck and swap nearly all the parts to make it work, and be strong.

Just buy one, or stroke it.
Not true. This 1/2 ton appears to not be heavily modded, those wheels are a good indication.
