Default Need rear end help

Ok a month or so ago My rear tire/s were draging on turns intermitantly. I parked it.Once or twice after it cooled down I took it for short runs into town and nothing happened. But I want to take a look and be sure before I cause more damage.Tomorrow I will be taking the cover off and looking for obvious damage. I have a posi unit of some sort is there anything special I should look for ot measure or test?

What fluid do I need to put back in. What about the posi additive?
Thanks for the help.

most people complain when there posi doesn't lock. And they look for clutch material. I guess if its staying locked. Just look for broken stuff

Do not use brake cleaner in thier unless you would like to have your rear end jerk around the corners for a while till the oil gets worked into the clutches agin. A cheap easy thing to try is to get a bottle of additive from Chrysler and put in the rear end drive it around town for a while and see if it goes away the bottle is only $6, and if you decied todrain and refill be shure to put a bottle in or it will grab and try to lock all the time.

Refill it with a quality 75w90 Hypoid gear oil. If you tow frequently go for a 75w140 synthetic gear oil. Check the new oil bottle because some gear oils already have the "posi additive' or friction modifier in them. If not buy a small bottle of friction modifier and add it first. Then fill with fresh oil.

When you're all done do some slow tight figure 8's in a parking lot to help pump the new oil into the clutches.

Good luck

Great news! Not really. I opened the cover and all sorts of tinny chunks of material were all over everything. I guess the clutch packs broke loose. Can I let it go as is and still drive? Is there a cheap fix for this?
