oil pressure 0 at idle
I have a 99 Ram 2500 5.9L w/ 70 thou on it.....The oil pressure drops to 0 when the engine gets warm.....My first thought is to check the actual oil pressure and then go from there......The oil was just changed and nothing looked wrong when I was draining it.....I first thought it might be the filter plugged up since the truck hasent been driven much due to me being in Iraq for the last 15 months....Does anyone have any info for me on what I should do? Any advice would be greatly appriciated.....
It also could be the oil pressure bypass valve stuck open in the oil pump i have seen this befor and they can wipe out a engine fast if let go. You need to put a manual gage on the engine to test the oil pressure anything below 17psi idle hydrolic lifters don't have enough pressure to stay pumped up.

I checked the oil pressure with a mechanical guage and got no pressure......I am replacing the pump and sending unit to see if it fixes it....If not must be a bearing problem.....
Also drop the pan and check the screen, it could be as simple as sludge clogging it up...

I dropped the pan and the screen on the pickup tube looked fine, found some little metal shavings in the tube.....Not a lot but that still might be the problem.....I am still putting a new pump, pickup tube, and sending unit on.....
thin strip of bearing material about 1/4" long.......i changed out my pump and sending unit and it is fine now.....i know that metal flakes are bad, most likely the cam bearings if you ask me......truck has never been over heated or ran low on oil.....when i was in alaska the block froze solid twice so maybe that might have caused it....it only has 70 thou on it....
