I read an interesting article in the paper the other day that said that if you compare the price of goods, average incomes, and cost of living from 1960's and 1980's, then compare with today's prices, incomes, and cost of living, you'll find that todays fuel prices are very proportional to what it was in the 60's and 80's. For example, cars in the 60's cost $2000-$3500, and now they cost $35,000. Using those same levels of inflation, fuel today is relatively proportional to what it was then, perhaps still a little on the cheap side. I'll see if I can find the article on-line.

Thats great to hear, but it ultimately the same results...the way things are set up in this country are not working. The cost of living is still increasing at an astronomical rate while incomes are no-where near the rate of increase.

So what does this mean, that we as a gov't are no smarter than we were 20-60yrs ago??LOL.You think if it were in the best interests of the rich to change things, they would have done it by now correct??Have you ever heard of the depression?? So since it happened then,it's ok for it to happen again?

Thats a funny comment. The cost of fuel is comparative to what it was then.LOL.You mean like when we had people waiting in lines to get gas?I don't know if you're old enough to remember, but in the 70's when there was the so called "gas shortage" people were allowed to get gas based on their ssn's? Yes,on certain days, certain people were chosen by their SSN,to be allowed to get gas.Should we go back to that? Hey it happened then right??

Like I said, nothing can change the facts of how much profit is being made off of us??

It has yet to be addressed by anyone. Many opinions are being posted, and it cool and all,but is their profits justified is all that any of us can ask.

Cost of living, comparative rises in fuel compared to other things is great, but will still not change how many billions they are making. And again,in these tough times,Exxon has BROKEN THE RECORD FOR 2ND QUARTER EARNINGS! The price is so high per barrel, everyone is paying double for what we were paying 2 yrs ago,and they're breaking the record of what they profit! LMAO

Dude, relax. I wasn't preaching or suggesting anything (and note that I said the article referenced only the 60's and the 80's - not the 70's when the things you mentioned were going on). Just telling you all what I read in a newspaper article, that's all. Get off your soapbox.

Im sorry if I came across like I thought you were preaching.I didn't think that at all,but was only commenting on what you were talking about.

If im on a soapbox,it's only because more need to be! Things will never change,on any issue, not just gas,if everyone keeps quiet.Come on up and join me,its a big box, there's room.LOL

checking out some articles and came across this one. i skipped through some of it so if anyone gave the answer to it then sorry to repost it...the higher the octane the hotter the flash point...the lower the octane the lower the flash point...i don't know the exact flashpoint of acetone but probably could be found easily online...but i do know that my neighbor poured acetone on some trash to burn and thought he was going to have a good fire...all it did was ignite really quick and not even set the stuff on fire...that tells me some stuff...it's flash point is extremely low....if anything you would be reducing your octane rating. it is similar to carb cleaner or starter fluid. i am no scientist thouh. so feel free to throw tomatoes at me.
