Default Outside rear view mirror loose...

My driver's side rear view mirror gets pushed in at high way speeds. Have looked for a way to remove the appearance panel covering the mirror assembly, but can't find any way and do not want to break anything by forcing it. Any advice???

What year is it?

On my '97 you have to pop the retainer clip off the window crank and remove it. Then I believe there are a couple screws in the armrest (been a while since I did this). Besides that, the whole interior door pannel just pops off. You have to pry on it pretty good. They do make special tools so you don't break the plastic door pannel. I hate those goddamn plastic retainers they use now instead of screws, makes it a pain in the ***. Once you get the pannel loose, I think there are 3 nuts you remove from the inside to take the mirror off. I believe it takes an M10 socket.

There are 4 bolts that hold the mirror clamp onto the mounting bracket. The clamp holds the round shaft on the mirror to the mounting bracket. Unfortunately, the bracket is aluminum and the threads strip, causing the mirror to fold back at speed. Take the mirror off, then drill and helicoil the aluminum mounting bracket for 1/4"-20 UNC bolts.

Snafu:
Thanks for the info. I'll tackle that when it gets a bit warmer...
