Well, my '01 has it equipped with the compass thing up on the inner top of the cab. Dunno what year yours is, or anything, but maybe you can get it and wire it up in your truck? And if yours has the compass thing, just hit step two times,(I think, might be three) and it'll tell you the average gas mileage. One more, and you can check what gas mileage you're getting at that exact moment. It's kinda funny, cause that one, if I'm going downhill and coasting, will range anywhere from 27-40 mpg. But my average, nonetheless, is 9.5 mpg. Heh.

sorry they are never 100% accurate. got one in my wifes car and its off by 3-4mpg all the time.
just get a calculator and leave it in your console. each fill up do the math.
miles divided by gallons used = MPG.

If you have a 1996 or above model year with OBD-II computer software running the engine, you can buy a Scanguage II

http://www.scangauge.com/

The Oztrip computer from Australia can be put on nearly any vehicle, gas or diesel,
computer controlled or carburetor,
and has served me well on a
1995 Ram with OBD-I for several years:

The Oztrip has some useful extra features:

It can be used with its internal odometer to time any length of acceleration, such as a eighth mile, quartermile, one kilometer, one mile. This is useful for testing mods.

It can measure the fuel used per hour at idle. (0.67 gallons per hour on a Magnum 5.9V8)

It can measure 'instantaneous' MPG, average MPG, or MPG over the last exact one gallon

If you want to estimate MPG at
various speeds, tires, aero mods
the guys that created the MegaSquirt EFI project
have put this useful Java application online:
