I still need to order my fiberglass material so that I can mold the floor and get a decent box built that doesn't eat up any "useable" space.I have been down some bumpy, irritating roads and I have not noticed any rattling. But then again... I made it so it stuck out a little further than the stock radio (maybe 1/16") and that put enough pressure on the dash ring that it still fits, but it doesn't seem to rattle.

Crutchfield all the way. Buy the stereo and adaptor plate from them, they way you know it all will fit together properly, with no modifications. Easier is not always better, but in this case I think it is.

I just picked one up at Walmart, myself.
I got the dash kit, and a wiring install kit for ~$17. I think the dash kit was ~$10. Haven't even opened it yet, looks like there are several different ones in the pack. It's a Ford/Chrysler/Jeep kit.
The wiring connector/install kit should save time and make a better install, too.
