Default Kind of depressing

As some of you know, I've recently been on a quest to eliminate the majority of the drone coming through my cab, especially at highway speeds. So I had my exhaust rerouted out underneath the rear bumper to see if this would help. It didn't do anything for the drone. Then I figured that the flowmaster super 44 muffler was too aggressive, so I bought a 5x8x18 magnaflow muffler (flowmaster 50 series dimensions). I assumed a muffler the size of the 50 series and it being a magnaflow would mellow things out. Well, guess what, the drone is equally as intense still. So what makes me sad though, is my truck doesn't sound nearly as good as it used to, yet it drones just as much. I could have gotten over the fact that the magnaflow isn't nearly as exciting sounding as the flowmaster if the drone was gone, but it's not. It's equally as annoying as the 44s drone, and it doesn't sound as good doing it. So obviously it's the gutted cat causing the problem. Knowing this, it pisses me off that I waisted my money on the magnaflow. I'm going to have to buy another magnaflow cat. And of course like a moron, I gave my super 44 away, so I'm stuck with the boring magnaflow for awhile. The headers and gutted cat really make this truck sickeningly loud in the cab though. I love it loud, but this kind of loud is not appealing at all. On the highway, it's a joke, it would drive the biggest motorhead enthusiast insane.

I know how you feel. Even with a cat my truck does drone some. I noticed it after you said that. I almost always listen to the radio and I don't notice the drone but with it turned off listening it was a bit of a drone. That's with a Magnaflow cat and a Flowmaster 40 muffler. It didn't bother me and really doesn't as long as I have the radio on but it was there.

I know how you feel about too loud though. I have both 2 dirtbikes and the older Accord used to have a exhaust that make your ears hurt it's soo loud. Someone got a ticket in the Accord although when that happend it had a silencer in which it wasn't bad with so I put it back to stock and it has remained that way. That thing was really too loud without the silencer out though.

Anyway, good luck on your quest for a quiter sounding muffler. If it was me I probably would have to go back out and get another Flowmaster put on. So the Magnaflow doesn't sound good? I've never tried one but honestly I've just never been a huge fan so never wanted to really try one.

Ugh.

I can't help you anymore. I've tried, you won't listen. I try to help out as many people as I can here, I may not always be right, but you don't listen to any advice that anyone posts unless you wanted to hear that answer. It's wearing me out and I'm going to block all posts authored by you.

I'm not going to be mean, or a smartass, or try to be cute, I simply don't have the energy, I'm just going to state the truth:

You believe only what you wish to believe, whether it's good advice or not. Go back to the posts when you asked about this "problem" in the first place. What did I tell you then? Read posts from HankL about exhaust pipe length, what does he suggest? What has everyone else told you? Who did you listen to?

Yeah do you have any video's of the Magnaflow? BTW why not try a resonator and put a Flowmaster back on? I know you said no room but I find it hard to believe that a exhaust shop can't make something work. Maybe move the muffler a little farther forward and put one after that or something. Just seems like they should be able to make something work.

I want to get the flowmaster 70 series. Heard its okay for towing and not loud but has a "flowmaster" throaty sound.
Anyone here have one? I looked on youtube but found very little.

aim4squirrels +1. I can get like that, heck we all can... we just want to hear someone agree with you so you feel justified. As we get wiser we listen more, maybe in time he will wise up and listen up to good advice. I say.... go back to stock. no drone in my truck LOL.

Squirrels, you have to stop judging me. Although I may change my mind a lot, I do a pretty damn good job with my truck. There is no mistake the way it performs and looks, it was because of me. I think out loud on this forum, only place I can. You either have to live with it and accept that's who I am, or if you want to make it as extreme as ignoring my posts, you can do that too. Nobody wanted to give me props for doing the airhat design, I listened on that one. I learn as I go, but at the end of the day, I think I've done a pretty darn good job at making this 2001 look like it came fresh off the lot..

That's a good point. The exhaust shop that did the muffler swap didn't seem very hellbeant on helping me out with some kind of resonator. Maybe instead of buying another cat, maybe a resonator would knock out a little more drone. I'm fine with a little drone, that's natural, but this drone almost sounds unhealthy. I do like the magnaflow though, it's just a different breed though. It just has one consistent deep tone. The more throttle you give it the less deep it gets actually. The super 44 had so many different tones depending on the throttle you gave it. That muffler was nuts, I could have it cracking and popping, have it deep, smooth, whatever. But the magnaflow has a much more consistent deep smooth professional tone. Some love it, others like the flowmaster gurgle. I like both.

Are you serious? I'm having a hard time thinking of anything you've done to your truck that didn't turn out to be a complete cluster. And it basically looks and performs like a stock truck, because you really haven't done much to it. Come back to earth.
