Default New truck

Ok so I'm selling my Ram 1500 and I'm gonna go buy a CTD.

I have two choices
2002 2500 SLT 8ft box gray and silver two tone, tinted windows, banks exhaust, edge chip, k&n airbox lvling kit 33s and american racing wheels 3.73 gears It looks good a few scratches and one ding on the bumper The truck has 154,000 miles on it and the tranny was just rebuilt

the other one

2002 2500 short box silver sport edition with all stock components but is fully loaded on the inside. No leather seats tho. There are no scratches on this thing not one dent it is immaculate! It has 129,000 miles on it and 3.55 gears The tranny was rebuilt at 100,000. The seller knows his stuff and is well known for selling quality Dodge diesels cuz thats his specialty.

Ok which one is the better buy? Both trucks were well taken care of. both are asking $12,500 and are both the same distance away from me. How much life could I expect to get out of these? Should I go for a newer one or one with less miles?

thanks,
Tyler

You can easily get 300K out of a cummins. Both trucks are in good shape as far as that goes.

Did you typo the date, because they both say 2002? IMO, it's a draw, and you'd either want to take the one you feel better about, or take to a mech and get an opinion.

There are a few other minor things to consider. Is either a crew or club cab? Do you want that? I have a single cab and would personally like a little more room.

A Long Bed gives you more cargo space, but it's a bit of a bugger to park in some situations, like parking garages and event venues where the parking rows are thin. It also might not fit in your garage. Mine won't and that's the primary reason I have a cracking clearcoat.

Sometimes it's just a matter of looks, someone who takes care of their truck on the outside, probably cares a great deal about the insides too.

I agree about taking them to a mechanic to get checked out.If they are the same year and price,it would really just be about which one is in better condition and which one you like better.

I know many guys who have 200-300k on diesels and they're still going.

Good luck on the choice.

If you've got no other reason to discount either, I'd go with the short bed. A long bed quad cab is as long as a bus.

I always thought that the 8ft box looked nicer I know it'll be harder to drive but thats ok i"ll get used to it.

The dealer whos selling the silver shortbox claims that the truck will get 20mpg on the highway that'd really be nice considering I only get about 12 with mine that I run premium in anyway. So I spend about $4.28/ gal here for premium and diesel is $4.49/gal....I think I'd be better off with diesel. However if I do get a diesel I'm gonna have to get power out of it lol. I cant resist it. So how much more get up would the 3.73 gears have as compared to the 3.55 and lets say hypothetically that the they have the same tires size.

Also if I do get the one thats completely stock what upgrades should I get first?

The first one is a Sport. Is that the one that is mostly stock? Thats my personal favorite out of the two. Looks cleaner too.
