Default Ticking noise

Alright guys, i have a 99 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9 engine. Best truck i've ever owned, got it brand new in 99 and now has 212,000 miles on it and still runs better than our brand new 2007 ford explorer. But now down to business, recently i've been hearing a slight ticking noise coming from the engine compartment. I can hear it if i lightly accelerate or if i pass a house or something with the window down. It almost sounds like the fan or a rocker but i'm no expert so i wouldn't know. If anyone knows what i'm talking about please help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I have an occasional ticking from my engine. It's either a lifter or an injector. It comes and goes.

I get it at lower rpms under little load on the motor. it sounds like a lifter/valve. it comes and goes or I just don't notice it as much.

I hear the same thing on my 318 with 100,000 miles. Been doing that for at least a solid year now with no adverse affects that I can tell. I keep telling myself that the manifolds are leaking which gives me an excuse for headers I'm trying not to dump a bunch of money into the engine and running her till she dies. Next step is hopefully a 390 or 408
