whats the difference
How is a 1500 ram differant from a 2500 ram Is is size weight engine size or what. Im thinking abt buying a camping trailor that weighs abt 6000 lbs and I want to know am I gonna be crowding my 5.9 1500 or not. The camper is a 5th wheel. My ram is a 1996 with 180000miles. With 17 inch wheels.H Has anyone here ever done this and how good did she preform with that much weight. Tks Terry
everything. 2500 has dana 60 front and rear axles, which are much stouter than dana 44 and chrysler 9.25. also bigger brakes, i think a heavier transmission, re/rh 47 instead of re/rh46. stouter t-case, springs, etc, etc. i'm guessing some here, but i think engine choice on 2500 included diesel, v10 gas, v8-360. i think your 1500 will pull the trailer mostly ok. you may want some heavier rear springs if you get a lot of rear end squat. stopping may be a challenge. transmission is a weak point. if you've got a heavy duty bulletproof version you'll be ok. you'll definitely want a big cooler. stock trans probably won't last.
I know the V10 has more power and torque than the V8's and a trailer like that will take 3/4 to a mile to get to 70mph. Personally i wouldn't pull a Dodge with a Slip-o-matic all you will ever do is blow the tranny up I know even the 12v cummins trannys don't stand up to pullin very long unless you have a stick that has allready been rebuilt. I have even installed the "Bullet Proof" Trannys to see 3 fail in less than one week. We finnally found a company thats makes a adaptor kit to go cummins to 4L80E/Allison six speed never had another issue.
