Ok here is the deal. I have a 95 ram 2500 4x4 and I just love mudding and pitclimbing but there are limits to what I can do with the crappy tires I have. I run stock 245-75-16 ten ply tires and I want something bigger and affordable, i dont have a lift it is a tall truck as it is . did i mention i am looking for affordable. I know alot of hard core guys go for the standby bfg a/t but I dont have the almost 200 per tire cash kicking around. and besides i dont like them. Again it isnt lifted so something bigger and wider that will fit. I do have abs and yes i know it will need recalibration as with the speedo. thanks for you input in advance.

 

I'm looking into Firestone Destination A/T tires, 285/75R16s, in a few thousand miles after my tires are worn down to the point they need being replaced.

They are about $150 a piece.

 

General Tire makes a mud tire. Interco has smaller sizes and the LTB. Buckshot mudder. BigO Tire has a mud terrain. Shop at the tire rack or costco. Kumho makes one. Dunlop makes one. Just go with a common tire size and not some odd size.

 

see the thing is I dont know what is comon and what is not so that is why I am asking all of yall to see what works best for my truck. mind you it isnt lifted but it is tall and I love to off road.

 

Go with a 305 in an all terrain or a 265 in a mud terrain. You say you mud and pit climb and I'd lean towards a mud terrain for that. The reason I say 265 is cause the side lugs are going to be bigger and you'll need the extra room so they don't rub.

 

Don't do the Buckshots, a hunting buddy of mine had them on his Z71 and wore them to nothing on pavement in like 18k miles. The price is attractive and when they have tread they do well in the mud, but if you do pavement you'll be back here asking tire advice this time next year...
Personally, I like Baja Claws, had them on a Wrangler I had when I lived in Ga. and played hard every weekend, but since I do a commute from central florida to my original home in central Ga. once a month or so, I went with a less aggressive Cepek Fun Country II's on my truck. Only problem with the Claws is they ain't cheap...

 

BFG all terrains KO's get 285's or 305's they are great in the mud and snow, and won't get ate up when driving on the streets they are pretty affordable and usually run under $200 per tires installed

Mud terrains would be good too, but you better not even think of driving on anything but mud.... sucky traction in snow, rain, and ice..... don't even think about driving on asphalt!

 

i'd stay with 285-75-16. its a very common size, and won't rub. as you go taller w/o changing gears you just turn the truck into more of a pig.

have to put my imput but you wont like it. I have the same truck, run BFG's 35 muds. They are the best muds IMHO. Have yet to get stuck, and i mud in red georgia clay.
