I bought them on all three trucks I've had that I've done body lifts for, but if you want to save money, pick up some heavy duty black rubber, like mat material, cut two sheets (one for each side) in a rectangle big enough to cover the holes left between body & frame and pop rivet them in place. Will serve the same purpose.
You want to do something, whether you buy or make, because you can sit in a lawn chair on one side of your truck and watch a ballgame on the other through the hole.
IMO it's very unsightly...

It's almost unnoticeable on a 2nd Gen Ram though, especially since our trucks have the black plastic wheel well liners. I don't think they are necessary at all. Trucks without wheel well liners could use them though.
