looking at buying a truck like yours
ok well i dont know much about trucks at all.. ive been driving and tuning a neon for the last 2 years..
well one of my friends friends is selling a Dodge truck i believe a short bed and its blue.. for $1000
he says it needs a new radiator and it slips when you put it into reverse... so is $1000 worth it?
ill try to get some pictures up later.. i havent seen it yet but my friend says its nice...

well for starters your looking at close to 200 bux for a radiator and you could get away with a tranny for 1300 bux a rebuild of course there are a few guys on the forum who have 12 second rams (naturally aspirated) so id say you can make them fast. i can give you prices on some speed parts if you like. they make procharger and kenne bell kits for these trucks if you are looking for forced induction. and obviously cheaper bolt on parts, these trucks are very reliable and hold up to quite a bit of abuse. as a ram owner it sounds like a great deal to me granted the truck is in half decent shape.

The Ram 1500s had three choices for engines: 3.9L (239ci) V6, 5.2L (318ci) V8, and the 5.9L (360ci) V8.
Never buy a V6 Ram, IMO. They get about the same mileage as the 5.2L V8, and are very underpowered. The 5.2L and 5.9L are not bad engines at all. The 5.2L is a good combination of mileage and power for these trucks, while the 5.9L is a little faster and more powerful, it also takes away a couple more MPGs.
Do not buy one of these trucks if you value MPGs at all. Their engines were originally designed about forty years ago, and although they made some revisions (the biggest one being the "Magnum" one), they are still the same basic design.
Realistically, in town with a lead foot, look for MPG to be around 10-12 with a 4x4 5.9L V8 Ram in excellent running condition. If its 4x2, you'll get a tad better.
