Engine oil temp and vacuum gauge?
Hey guys I will be installing a Engine oil temp and vacuum autometer gauges, anybody have any ideas on where and how to install these too gauges into my 2000 ram 5.7l v8. Thanks guys, I will also have a tranny gauge but I have that all figured out already, just need help with the oil temp and the vacuum.
there are a number of single dual and tripple gauge mounts available

I tend to like the pillar mounts
but I do admit that the Dodge pillar is already so wide
that it is a safety hazard

equations to figure how much HP you are losing when vacuum or exhaust backpressure is too high:

the cheap way to mount an oil temperature gauge is to make a T between the factory oil pressure switch for the sensor to mount to,
but I don't like this because you are not measuring the temperature of 'flowing' oil.
A better way is a 'sandwitch adapter' at the oil filter flange:

but it is more expensive.
Pick up the vacuum signal at the test nipple on the intake manifold
so as to avoid the check valves in the factory vacuum lines.
Good luck

HankL - Thanks for the idea for the vacuum, ill look into that. Now I have heard of people putting the oil temp in the pan, or through a taped oil plug?? What else do yall think I want to work on this today.
I think I've seen sensors that replace the oil plug, but I've been leary of that since it's so low on the pan that I wouldn't want the wire nicked by under truck debris. I really don't like the idea of tapping the pan directly as you just can't afford to spring a leak.
The part that HankL posted is a good quality part. You can hook the pillar pods up, run the wire through and just wait until next weekend and wire it up. It'll cost you about the time of one oil change, you can reuse your oil if you catch it all in a clean drip pan.

Well i talked to a guy I know at 4 wheel parts yesterday, who is a dodge guy. He said, for the oil temp, i could T it in with the oil pressure sending unit by the distributor. Then for the vac i could put it on one of the test ports on the manifold (like yall said). How does this sound to yall?
