Dodges have ears!
Alright well with my old 2000 dodge it was running all great and stuff and I was with some buddys talking and they were asking how good it ran and stuff. I was like yeah man its great but it's been shifting funny. Next day BOOM! Transmission went bad.
Well that dodge got totalled by my cousin so i upgraded to a 2001. Well just the other day me and my grandpa were standing beside it and he said he thought he smelt something funny. Well i blew it off but sure enough the next day the check engine light came on.... I hate dodge reliability.
Well anyways I was wondering if there is a way to check why the check engine light is on without taking it somewhere? or is a tuner the only way to check it without taking it somewhere?

yeah i did some looking around and found out that was it. some ppl said it was bout 50 bucks to fit but I read that if your truck has under 100,000 miles your emission warrenty covers it? I dunno what that means so helps appreciated. If anyone knows how to replace it that would be much appreciated.
Your thinking of the CAT warranty. O2 sensors will not be replaced.
Buy the NTK before cat O2 sensor from www.rockauto.com
Probably the cheapest place for the parts and the NTK is a straight plug-in replacement. I had a hell of a time trying to get the square connector at the local parts stores, they kept wanting to sell me a round plug connector because that's what their computer kept pulling up. I figured that maybe another year or model used the round connector.

well cant u drive with a bad 02 sensor? I'm not real sure what it does? Something bout blow back on the motor? Can it be installed yourself? Whats it do to the truck driving without it?
This code is for the downstream O2 sensor. (behind the cat converter)
Easy to replace assuming it isn't seized in the pipe.
I would replace it with an NTK brand O2 sensor. (NTK makes some of the OEM O2 sensors for Mopar)
The cost of the sensor is probably less than having a shop check it out and they will probably recommend replacing it first anyway.
P0138 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical Description
O2 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank1, Sensor2)
What does that mean? The Heated Oxygen Sensor (2) located rear of catalytic converter produces an output signal relative to oxygen storage capacity of catalytic converter. Ho2S 2 signal is less active than signal produced by front oxygen sensor. This code sets when HO2 Sensor voltage is greater than 999 mV for more than 2 minutes (time depends on model. Could be as high as 4 minutes)
Symptoms
There may be no noticeable symptoms except for MIL illumination. Possible high fuel pressure can over rich the system.
Causes
A code P0138 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty O2 sensor
Short to battery voltage in O2 sensor signal circuit
High fuel pressure (not as likely)
Possible SolutionsHere are some potential solutions:
Replace O2 sensor
Repair short to battery voltage in o2 sensor signal circuit
