Unhappy Ram Tranny Problems, HELP

I have a 1996 Ram 5.9 auto 2wd. It's in not changeing gears. Its takes off in 3rd gear. I can shift it manually and it will change but thats the only way. Is also dont change into OD. I was told it was the transmission solenoid, but I'd like to make sure before I send over $100 for one. I'm not getting any codes or anything.

Does your check engine light work? Maybe the bulb is burnt? Will it manually shift into OD? What does the fluid look and smell like? There are 3 solenoids and one sensor in the transmission.

Check out your wiring harness going to the transmission. Make sure some critter didnt get under there and go nuts with the wiring.

It sounds like the transmission is in limp mode, but usually you cant manually shift while its in limp mode, i dont think.

Well, I got back under the truck today looking for more damage. I didnt find any, however I did fine a wire unpluged next to the other one that I had replaced. I pluged it up and now all is well. Thanks very much. You saved me alot of money.
