Help needed... 2001 won't go into 4x4
i have a 2001 15OO ram 4x4 with 5.2L , when i try to put the truck in 4 wheel, nothing happens, the light don't come on, and she won't engage the front axle, ( i have checked the actuator located on the front axle, i pulled the vacum fitting off when i put the truck in 4 high and their is suction on the vacum line) could somebody please help find the problem to fix this problem
did it ever work ?
first step is to check for proper vacuum. it should switch back and forth between the 2 lines at the cad when 4wd engaged/not engaged.
i think the next step would be to remove the cad and test its motion. a common problem is a rusty/sticky shaft, with the fork not sliding back and forth. also see if you can move the collar back and forth in the axle tube, watch your fingers.
there's not a lot to it, and unless the diaphragm is torn, it should be fixable. if you can't or don't want to fix it, look into a posi-lok. its a manual alternative that works nice and is probably cheaper than buying a new cad.

yes.
place a pan under the cad, as a small amount of gear oil will leak out.
be gentle with the 4 bolts that hold the cad in, they are small and prone to break off, so hold you breath when you remove them.
pull cad straight out, the shift fork sort of straddles a collar on the front axle.
with the cad out of the truck, when you apply vacuum to one port, or the other, the fork should freely slide from one side to the other. with no vac, you should be able to slide it back and forth with your fingers.
