Question what motor oil is better

hey everyone i have another question which motor oil is better for high mileage truck would yall use oil for high mileage or full syntec. and what are some of the best brands i hear people talk about royal purple but i have never tried it ... so i was wondering if anyone eles had .. and they liked it .... and i have also heard that if ur trucks runnin conventional oil u have to gradually work up to full syntec by going to the syntec blend first is that also true j.w

I like Royal Purple. I run it in all my vehicles and have never worked up to it. I just switched. I still change my oil every 3k miles though. If you plan to leave it in there long periods of time might be a good idea to change it soon the first few times. As in like 3k miles. A lot of times I hear guys saying switching to a synthetic causes leaks on higher mileage vehicles so it's up to you if you want to try or not. Some don't have a issue some do.

I just switched to RP.This has only been my first oil change since I bought the truck though so I can't comment on how I like it yet,but I have always heard good things about it.

i work at a napa store and i see people constantly come in asking specifically for royal purple. its in the vicinity of 8 dollars a quart which is outrageous. i refuse to but into the full synthetic thing, i change my conventional oil religiously and i have never had an issue, but hey to each their own

My Napa was selling it for $6.99 or something a quart. Seemed like more when I bought a case last time but not sure. Wal-Mart here has a 5-30w for a little cheaper. In the high $6 range. Advance also sells it but is more. It's not cheap but I don't mind paying if I'm getting a superior oil. I've probably been running it in my truck the last 40k or so. I've been using it for a long time.

The only brand of Amsoil that is API certified is the XL-7500 series as far as I know. The others contain too much ZDDP and don't meet the API certification standards. Phosphorous have been accused of premature catalytic converter failures.

I'm not accusing Amsoil of being a bad product by any means, but I'll be darned if I'll loose my cat warranty for using an uncertified oil.
