to buy or not to buy?
I'm not sure if it's worth it... let me know what youy guys think...
1997 DODGE RAM 1500 SLT LARAMIE 1/2 TON PICK UP TRUCK
It looks great in photos, interior looks good except a rip in driver seat. has 160k with the magnum V8. There has been no work done to the motor or tranny... He said his lowest would be $3,000.
I'm just concerned that I may buy a truck and have the tranny blow on me soon after... I dont knwo weather no tranny work is a good thing or bad... I think it has the 46RE tranny...
Is it worth $3000 to take the chance? It's a nice looking truck.. he even offered to drive it to my house which is an hour away when I said he lived too far...

Thats a long time on the tranny with no work. I'd be skeptical, however he may have been really good on the maintinence and there may be no issue.
FYI, thats a bit below what blue book is on a good condition 97, assuming it is 4x4.

Hindsight being 20/20, I would spend my money on something newer than a '97. Too many time bombs waiting to go off in a truck that old, especially a Dodge. The guy is probably just trying to come up with down payment on a new truck so I would offer him no more than $1500 for it. Probably better than what he'll get on trade.
