well all i did this weekend i upgrade to platinum 3923s. runs a lot smoother and pulls harder from a stand still. worked great when i was towing brush on a trailer (from hurricane ike!).

thats a good idea. id do that if i had a toolbox. theres just not enough room under the seats for all of that.

Here in Illinois fire extinguisher and reflectors/flares are in any truck, even a pickup. I have never been checked for them but I know a few that have.

I've had my Accel coil for 8 years and about 90k miles. No problem. No difference either.

many reports of sudden failures with the Accel coils,
but Accel seems quite willing to ship replacements

can't remember a MSD 'exact fit' coil being reported as a failure

I have never seen a test where a replacement coil provided any torque or fuel economy improvement on a Magnum V8

several years ago (maybe 1997 or 98) there was a gathering of Dakotas at Rockingham Dragway and I electrically measured several coils and one Dakota owner with 5.2V8 borrowed different coils from other owners present and made multiple q'mile passes, but found no measurable improvement with any coil

Here's what the Accel catalog says about their Magnum Truck coil:

For Info,
Here is what I measured on my 1995 model year stock Ram ignition coil this
afternoon:

Number on side of coil: 56027966

Primary Resistance 0.99 ohms
Primary Inductance 6.25 milliHenrys
Secondary Resistance 12,250 ohms
Secondary Inductance 41.9 Henrys

I put 6.3 volts of 60 cycle AC on the primary of the stock coil and got 453
volts AC on the secondary. The turns ratio of the stock coil might be about
453/6.3 = 72

A lower turns ratio can be good in that it prolongs the 'burn time' of the
spark
especially at high rpms.

A higher turns ratio can provide a higher voltage to get the spark to jump
but most of the time a higher voltage is not needed. Exceptions are
when the plug is fouled with oil or gasoline, the tip edges have become dull,
or when the tips are cold when the engine is first started.

Above measured with a seventeen year old BK Precision LCR Meter model number
875A and a Fluke 87.

The 1995 FSManual says the coils are made either by Diamond or ToyoDenso.

For the Diamond the primary resistance is supposed to be between .97 and 1.18
ohms and the secondary 11,300 to 15,300 ohms.

For the Toyodenso the pri resis is supposed to be between 0.95 and 1.20 ohms
and the sec 11,300 to 13,300 ohms.
