'95 Ram 5.9L V8 Oil Pressure Concerns...any thoughts?
I'm driving a 1995 Ram 2500 with the 5.9L V8 Magnum with Auto tranny. Over this past week i have been noticing that my oil pressure guage will drop out of the white lines and pretty close to zero while on the highway and then will come back up and then slowly drop and come back up repeating itself. But then when I let off the gas while the pressure is down, the pressure goes back to where it normally runs (a hair over 40). I've also noticed that sometimes when I accelerate the oil pressure drops and goes back up to where it should. When i first noticed it, I was pulling a four place horse trailer. When it happened I put the pedal to the floor so to see if the pressure would go up but it didn't. Other times when I've done that exact same thing the pressure would go back up and stay there. I haven't experienced any loss of power because it still had the nuts to yank that horse trailer from 60-70 without a sweat and the engine temp is running fine all the time. I'm hoping that its just the oil sending unit taking a hike instead of the oil pump. But if any of you have any thoughts on what else it could be or you are sure of what it could be, please let me know its really got me going crazy!!! Also, where is the oil pressure sending unit for my particular engine? I was trying to find it the other night but had no luck. If you need more info or for me to describe the concern better let me know! Thanks for reading and thinking!
we were just talking about oil pressure.. weird https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-ram-tech/175486-oil-pressure.html
but my oil pressure goes down when i hit the gas but then goes back up around 1800 rpms.. if it is oil pump they are cheap(or i think they are) you can get a high volume unit for 50ish dollar or a stock one for 28ish dollar... but the oil pan gasket is like 28 dollar...
but droping down to the white line does not sound good.... hope it helps.. if not, theres a alot of start people on this site that will help you.
