Need help: V6 Random misfire codes?
Hi, my 98 V6 3.9L is showing random misfire codes when plugged in. I had the fuel rail replaced and all the injectors. The engine is new, with all the usual tune-up things: distributor, plugs, wires.
The only idea is that a bad ground on the passenger side might be fooling with the electrical system; it's a bit of a stretch.
#2 Idea: is the fuel pump in the tank might be an issue. I've heard the filter is in that pump assembly. Yes?
What do you mechanics think? I have a mechanic working on this, but we're running out of ideas. Would a dealership, again, be a wise decision? The engine is new, so is the tranny. It is destined for the body shop and new paint, so I want the DARN engine to purr. Any ideas?? THANKS -Nathan

Dealerships are almost never a wise decision, unless you have someone on the inside.
Yes, the filter is in with the pump.
Is it showing random misfire codes for all cylinders, or just a few?

Forgot to mention that, yes; all the cylinders are randomly misfiring...those are the codes that are coming up.
Also, the pleneum (excuse the misspelling) gasket was replaced with the the new motor install.
What part should I replace next?

Have you checked the cat? Usually it only causes misfires in a couple cylinders (forget which ones, but usually a specific two I believe) when its clogged, but I'd have a shop check it just to make sure (pressure test, I believe).
make sure your firing order is correct and your plug wires are not tied together on each side as they need not to be touching each other chrysler is known to jump cylinders through plug wires touching and crossing each other
After replacing all the fuel injectors, the fuel rail (found rust in the original fuel rail), and replacing the oxygen sensor, the engine is now running much better. It is running very well, actually.
For whatever reason, the oxygen sensor replacement seemed to make a noticeable difference; the engine ran better from then on. It would stall at idle occasionally, when changing from forward to reverse and vise versa. Replacing just that sensor made a difference. Plus, it shut off the "check engine" dummy light.
