Default New to forum, tranny problems ...

I got my dodge a few months ago, has some goodies.

K&N Intake, 9" lift, 35" tires, 3 Tv's...

Run Down 1996, 1500, 5.2l Automatic.

I went wheeling the other night, came back and it was shifting werid stopped started and was a complete dog, came to the conclusion its stuck in third. If I gun it after starting it will shift into 2nd, but coming to a complete stop again it starts out in 3rd.

Any advice? Ive heard the trannys are complete garbage in these, buddy has a 01 with 50k and has problems, and upgrade?

If you get a new one I'd check out APS and Dr. Evil transmissions for a rebuilt one.

How does the fluid smell/look? Do a service on it and inspect the pan and the fluid.

If you mean using the shifter to get it into 1st, it still starts out in third.
