front locker
i am going to be getting a locker for the front of my truck and am wondering what others have in and how they like it...i am thinking full locker would be the way to go instead of lsd...what kind and where is the best? also will i notice much difference with it installed when i am in 2 wheel drive? it is a 96 slt if it matters and i already have posi lock on the way
Front locker isnt recommended if you drive on the street. It can cause a "binding effect" when turning and could possible cause some undesired handeling when driving as well. To fix that if you want to drop some money on a locker, is to invest in "lock hubs" I believe a company called ems offroad can take care of that for around 1000 for parts. If shes a dedicated trail rig, go for it. If shes on the street, I'd consider a truetrac lsd which is aparently unnoticable when not in 4wd. Other option which would probably be more cost effective than doing lock hubs, and locker. Would be to look into an ox locker. It is a selectable locker that you can engauge / disengauge with a cable so when you on the street, it can be "open" and when you pull the lever, she's locked 100% Its the best of both worlds and will probably run you around 1000 for parts. Sure beats having to get out and do lock hubs. Also if it were me, I would use ems offroad's cad delete kit with the ox locker so you don't have to worry about the CAD any more.
My $0.2
Have you though about Ected Electric Locker? Its a limited-slip when disengaged an a locker when engage just like ARB but with added limited-slip feature an it runs of battery instead of air compressor. Run $650 - $700 if i remember correctly from 4wheelparts.

sorry if this does not make sense but...i don't understand how a locker in the front effects it on the road when it is in 2 wheel drive and the cad is not engaged...if it is in 2 wheel drive won't the drivers tire, axle, center carrier and first part of passenger axle all spin together and then there will be the space where the cad connects and that will be open so i dont' understand how a locker would effect it if its not having the cad locking the axles together? sorry if this does not make sense just trying to understand...thanx for any help

Hope this answers your question
I had arb airs on a Wrangler and I loved them. Just turn them on/off as needed. The air compressor can come in handy too to inflate tires, and for the air horn!

You are right about the first part, and that is exactly how an open differential works. (what is in there now) Your driveshaft spins, etc, your carrier spins but the open differential takes the path of least resistance (the half shaft). When you put a locker in, Your driverside wheel and the half shaft on the other side will spin 100% when in 2wd. Thats why it will affect you.
what and where can i get a cheap full locker or could i get a spool for the front?
i had somone tell me to just weld the front would that work?
the truck is not a highway truck and i will never drive it in 4 wheel drive unless i am offroad...so would welding it all up good work? it is a hunting mudding truck i don't drive it down highway very often and if so its not very far....just seems that welding it would only effect it when i have it in 4 wheel and have my posi lock engaged which will not b very often
