I would agree.. these trucks can be dogs.. sloooow

but... with some mods.. they can be considered "fast".. like 18sec 1/4 mile? hahahaha

But again I'll point out... you are comparing engines released just shy of the 21st century (Chevrolet 5.3 and 6.0) to one who's original design goes back 30+ years (Dodge), and just underwent revisions now and then. You might as well be comparing an old Chevrolet 5.7 to a new Hemi 5.7. Is the newer engine faster? Of course they are! Not trying to be a jerk here, but do you get my point? If you compare apples to apples, the engines that were meant to compete against Dodge 5.2s and 5.9s, yes, the Dodges are powerful and fast.
I agree 100% about what you are saying here about them being a newer design so being faster. Not saying that's not true. However, the 2nd gens even with the 5.9L are no where near considered even being quick. They are dogs. I was just comparing them to something else to show that other trucks were a lot faster. The 5.9L's have torque but I would not be able to call them fast at all. Heck you take a ride in our 06 Accord V6 6speed which I would not call fast either just quick and then take a ride in the truck and it feels like a moped. You get on the R1 and then in the truck and it's an even bigger difference. The R1 is what I'd call fast. 9-10second 1/4 miles. The Ram isn't. I took it to the drag strip which was a 1/8th mile and the only thing I ran faster than was some 12 year old kid in a old BMW. There were lots of other trucks there most were however diesels all running seconds faster than me. Most looked stock too but there were a few modified ones. It was just a test and tune night. Well, 1 mustang spun the whole way down and went slower than me. After that run he started going way way faster than me. The best time I got was like 11.4 something in the 1/8th. I did have it spinning a lot taking off though and not hooking. Before a lot of the mods I had been to a different track and ran a 11.2 but didn't spin at all. I think the spinning was what slowed me down. I wouldn't call a 11.2 or a 11.4 fast in the 8th.

jason made the point they are quick enough for what they are , there a truck not a bike or car if people are worried about how fast a truck is than you have no general purpose for it except running the bag of it what a waste of a truck , get in to a semi than get into a truck now the truck is faster . quote not being a jerk just giving my 2 cents

Not saying that's not true but no reason to tell people these are fast as they are not. Even for a truck they are a lot slower than most newer trucks out there.

My uncles Suburban felt way faster than mine. Well, not way faster but a bit. It had the 5.3L in it and was a 02 model. Not sure if it was that much as we never raced as I don't really care enough to go to the track but it felt faster.

As for the Ford's I do think they lack a bit in the power department on their motors too.

Cool its an ok truck

mine is a 98 with the 5.2, 4X4 and extended cab, prety much the same thing as you are looking at, around town, i have a very heavy foot, and my truck is not to good on gas, but once i hit highway, and cruise control, my truck is fine on gas, i do say to change the intake and exhaust, is not that expensive to do, i offraod with my truck more then i do on the road, so the breaking of part, i hardly ever brk anything on my truck and i do things with it jeeps quinge (i cant spell im sorry) at, the only thing i have worng with it right now, is the O2 sencors and the cat went on my, and thats just because i got stuck and buried my truck in 3 1/2 foot of water, to replace parts are alittle on the highside if you dont do them yourself, and i aswell are running a 5" rough contry lift and 35" BFG (KORE) race purpose mud terrain tires (very heavy) i still run the same gears and i have plenty of power with the 318, becausei dont care how fast it is, ITS NOT A RACE TRUCK. sorry if that pisses anyone of but this man i belive did nto even ask if the truck was fast, hes building a CUDA TO GO FAST. Hope this opens a few eyes, yes the trucks are not that good but for a daily driver/ parts getter it would be fine as long as ya stay out of the gas A BIT

98 with 5.9L...not many problems...latest was a radiator replacement but I am second owner so maybe the original owner fix the big ones and got rid of it. I love her...she got crappy gas mileage...like 10-12 on highway but that is maybe me...that only my biggest problem.
