Factory Brakes have plastic brake piston???
I am stil trying to get my brakes to work like they should on a half ton...
I upgraded to EBC sports, and hawk frerro carbon pads and there is no real improvment in hard stops.
I did some googling and found TSB's regarding the Ram Van 1500 factory pre 99? calipers having plastic brake pistons.
Can anyone confirm that my 98 has plastic pistons? I notice that all the reman/new calipers specifically state they have metal pistons.
When I replaced my pads, I noticed it was metal, but wondering if there was some sort or plastic coating or something else in there that they did away with in remans/new updated calipers?

I have no clue.. but I'm looking to dump some serious cash into my breaks in the spring I want larger cross drilled and slotted rotors, new dual or trip cali's and new hawk pads.. still looking for parts
I found some dual piston calipers, but they were $1000 for a set.
They do not make an oversized rotor kit for our trucks. If you take your wheel off and look at the brake setup you can see the caliper guide rails (or whatever they are called) will prevent you from changing your rotor size.
Trust me I have been searching for those items. I got the EBC Slotted and dimpled rotors. they aren't fully drilled, this prevents the infamous cracking.
They do however make a big caliper kit, thats about $800, they also make a rear disc conversion kit, thats also $800.
Do you have braking issues also? I just have no confidence in my brakes at all.

I have a lot of fade when braking... I've only had the truck a year and not sure when the last set of brakes where installed... i figure they are stock since the truck has about 125K on the od. I figure It needs to be done
I have the same issue. I have a firm pedal, and it seems to fade quickly.
So I thought maybe it was a cheap pad issue, and I got the Hawk set, along with the EBCs to keep them cooler. Same issue.
I just want to survive a couple more years on this truck and then get in to a nice 4th gen.
