Welcome to the forum.

you might want to save your $$ for repairs first.

Look around the forum to see the common issues. But the big one is the tranny.
that ranges from $1800-3000.

What year? How many miles? 4x4?

I must disagree with the statement that these trucks will cost a lot of money. Maybe the difference is with the 1500 vs the 2500. I have 187,000 miles on my 01 2500. I regularly tow 15,000 pounds of trailers and equipment. Here are the repairs I have had to do to date:

Transmission at 87,000. Had it rebuild with a 4 pinion overdrive system $2,400 no problems since.
Brake pads at 102,000 miles
Water pump at 135,000 miles
All brake calipers at 165,000 miles
1 tie tod end at 165,000 miles
New bearings/seals in the rear end at 180,000 miles

Just found slop in the ball joints so that is on my list for replacement
U-joints are still original and good shape
6 sets of tires so far

No engine work done yet.

All that stuff you listed above adds up to a lot of money. I have probably 8-10k into my truck this year in repairs. Well, a few are mods but most are repairs and honestly that's a lot of money for a truck that you probably couldn't sell for 10k with the way the economy is.

Except for the many people whom have the cracked heads they are notorious for. I've said it before and will say it again I'm sure the motors are one of the stronger points of this truck. Not power wise but reliability wise. However, even they have major problems that are far too common like cracked heads which is a huge issue if you have it and then pleneum gasket failures which is also expensive if you have to pay someone to fix it. Even with those two fairly big problems it's sad to say the motor is better than most the rest of the truck. That's not a good thing when the best part of the truck has those major issues.
