V10 hesitation problem solved..a must read
OK......I hope everyone who reads this can either chime in or shed light on this one.......96 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 with 168k.....Have had this terrible hesitation and lack of power issue now for over 2 years....I have replaced about everything you can on this and nothing solved the problem until what I did this last weekend....so far everything changed that didnt do squat...fuel pump,IAC,TPS,chop off CAT's,plugs, wires,Air filter, coolant temp sensor, temp sending unit...............check engine light has never come on except when I removed the battery box to replace vacuum line at the servo and forgot to rehook battery temp sensor...I got a code for that and the TPS.....I had just changed the TPS so I went back to the original holley TPS and hooked back up the battery temp sensor...wahlah........no check engine light but the hesitation was still there........well, after doing the fuel pump I decided to go up and get some fuel since I just did the pump and I only had a tad over maybe 1/8 a tank.....I have taken this truck on numerous trips and moved across the country with this problem in place and could never figure it out until I did what I have never done before.......SUPER UNLEADED FUEL.......I added 1 can of seafoam to the gas I got..about 10 gallons and it only took 5 miles (get rid of 87 in the line) and this truck is CURED........the power is back, the hesitation is gone and I have actually gotten around 13 miles a gallon since........all the mechanics I have talked to including the dealer are "stumped"......any responses to this one?.....LOL
Congratulations! I also tried changing fuel to get rid of hesitation. I just went to Chevron and got some regular Techron fuel and it has been running way better since. The hesitation is going away but I am going to try what you did anyways to speed up the process. My engine is just extremely dirty......
I put in 93........seafoam you can get at any parts store.....just dump the whole can in the tank with about 10 gallons and let er rip........after the truck ran really good, I got another can and ran it through the intake vacuum.....it did not smoke too bad....but this dam truck is cured
Are you still running super unleaded, kidvillain? Maybe you should switch back to the cheap(er) stuff to see if the problem returns. Maybe the seafoam alone made the difference. Maybe it cleaned the injectors and/or the combustion chambers which eliminated the hesitation. It would be nice to know that you don't have to continue paying for the premium fuel.
On the other hand, maybe you still have enough carbon build-up in your chambers that it's upping your compression enough that you need super unleaded.
