So I noticed my wheel cylinder leaking the other day. Got some time yesterday so I puller the drums to check out my neglected rear drums that haven't been doing crap for years.

Pretty funny what I found, there was only 1 spring holding the front shoe on, all the others mysteriously vacated the area. The rear shoe had all the springs though.

As for the wheel cylinder, was pretty funny what I found. The cylinder literally fell apart when I took the front shoe off. All the innards fell right out and she ****'s fluid all over. She's toast.

I was looking up Disc's out of curiosity and I'm not paying $800 for a kit. That's a total rip, and I hope nobody here paid that much for it.

And as for the write up on pavementsucks that's for a D60 (or maybe 70/80). I noticed right away its a full floater, so doesn't apply to 9.25's.

Anyways I check a site that I got the brackets off of for my Jeep's rear Disc conversion (Chev. 14 Bolt). They have generic brake brackets that are weld on that would work great. They're $45 plus shipping.

They use '75 Chev 3/4 ton calipers. Using a set of rotors off the front they'd work really nice. Since they're weld on you don't have to worry about the spacing on the rotor since you can put the bracket anywhere.

Ruff Stuff is sweet, I've gotten a bunch of stuff from them for the "Jeep". Good company to deal with. I haven't decided if I'll do it yet though. I'm assuming the rotor diameter on the 75 Chev is the same or VERY similar since they're both D44's.

Just an idea.

I have less than $200 into the rear disc's on my Jeep. No need to spend $800 on the overpriced kit.

 

i would think that Durango's, Dak's, and 2000-up Rams with the 9.25 would fit. i might look at the junkyard. I seen a million durangos with discs in the rear at the junkyard

 

would love to see it... I'm going to do a complete brake job in the spring.. need some ideas

 

Just a slight correction 2000 and 2001 Rams don't have 4 wheel disc brakes. My 01 still has drums in the rear.

 

dakota's and durango's have 6 lug axles.

 

Yes do please keep this thread going, as I am too interested in rear brake conversion and have a welder and don't want to spend 800+ on the job!

 

I was looking at the wrong thing.only the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have discs in the rear. I also forget that the Daks have 6 lugs. Stupid me.

 

Some 2001s came with discs in the rear, I believe. IIRC, it was an option available if you went with the SLT Plus group. But it was only an option, not automatically included with the SLT Plus package, so there are very few out there with it.

 

Jason..If it was an option for that year how would someone repair their disk brakes if it was broken or needed a new part(pads,rotor,calipers)...So the parts should be available from somewhere? ....

I did see that 2001.5 Ram 1500's did come with Disk brakes..

Theoretically, they should be. But keep in mind the rear discs were only offered for one model year (or maybe less), so they may be hard to find. The easiest would probably be to take off the pads, determine the size, and shop accordingly. Same with rotors.
