VW,

when I did my rear brakes, I took both wheels and drums off and used the right side as a blueprint for putting the left side back together correctly, then tested it before I did the other side. Have you removed both rear drum assemblies? You could use the passenger side as a map.

I know you want to get this done now, but if you wait until tomorrow morning, I am adjusting my rear brakes and have to remove the drums to do it,as I have no adjuster holes in my back plates to do so.I still don't believe there is a pin and clip of any sort. But I'll check.
That's cool. I pretty much shut down for the day before I started this thread. I have to get new adjuster parts tomorrow seeing as how the one on mine is broken. That damned C-clip is throwing me off as it comes with the spring replacement kit.

Yes, I have the FSM and the pics (or lack thereof) suck as well. If you can post up some pics then cool; otherwise, I will shoot you my e-mail address and you can e-mail them to me.

Also, all 4 shoes look the same (liner and all). Am I missing something? You say the one with less liner goes a certain way.

Since the M/C fluid is so dark, I'm going to pull and clean it as well tomorrow AM.

I learned that lesson a LONG time ago. Yes, my right rear are intact, but it's the running back and forth and trying to opposite-engineer everything that gets frustrating.

The lining on the shoes are not the same. The shorter ones go towards the front. And as far as the pin goes, if you still have the old shoes and there is no pin on them then you don't need it. You just need the 2 pin, spring, and holders. 1 each shoe.

And I was also going to ask about whether or not you took the other side apart, that is the best way to tell. As I don't think a picture will show the park brake lever very well since it's behind the shoe.

Prob solved, the pin and clip for the parking brake is for 13 inch brakes only. So the rest of the kit is the same for 11 and 13 ,only difference is the park brake pin. You have 11 as I can tell by the lever hanging there in your pic. The 13's are on sport offroad models possibly, but more than likely on 2500 or 3500's.

I just looked at your 2nd pic again. And I'm 99.9 % sure that shoe you have on already goes in the back not the front. If you put all the shoes side by side you will see that to have shorter lining.

Sorry, I just looked again and forgot that pic is of the driver side , so that shoe is correct, however, the p brake lever needs to be installed in that v groove on the top of the shoe from behind before you mount the hold down pin.

It goes behind the shoe? Then I don't need the pin and C-Clip? If it goes behind the shoe, how is it held in place?

The top of the lever goes into the v shaped hole in the top of the shoe, then that bar goes into the side of it over to the opposite shoe. And No, you do not need the pin and clip. That is for 13 inch brakes.

Hmmm. Any possible way you can post pics, or am I on the right track?

And no, I wasn't sleeping I still have to wait for a friend to give me a ride to town (which is 13 miles away).

You are on the right track, just look at the other side and you will see no pin holding the P brake lever to the shoe. And have you looked at the shoes and seen the difference in the lining length? It is very important. And I was only kidding about the sleeping. :-)
