The ticking could be a lifter. They are hydraulic and need to be full of oil which cushions their action and noise. If they drained down during the engine rework that could be your problem. They may quieten down after the engine runs a bit to allow oil to refill them. If not the lifters need to be replaced or at least pulled to try to fill manually. That is pretty drastic at this point. I would just run the truck for a day or so and see if it goes away.

I had the same assumption. Back to the workshop and taking of the intake again
I'm going for safety and will change the lifters, I already ordered them and should take 10 days to arrive.
I'm really getting sick of working on that engine, i hope it's the last thing to fix before she runs normal... so I can finally enjoy the truck behind the wheel instead of in the engine compartment!

When you get the new lifters set up a container that will hold oil and your hands without spilling the oil. The oil will need to be deep enough to completely cover the lifter. Use a screwdriver or rod as a push tool. Stand the lifter up in the oil, holding it with one hand, push the center part of the lifter (where the pushrod rides) down with the push tool. Repeat several times until the lifter creates a heavy resistance to your hand pressure. Do each lifter in the same manner before installing them into the block. Also pour some oil into each lifter hole after the lifter is in place. It is a bit time consuming but will make sure the lifters are filled and good to go. Take your time and hold on tight to the lifters as you do them and don't poke your hands with the push tool.

I started the truck again today.. the tikking sound is gone
Probably the lifters that didn't have enough oil pressure build up.
But the truck still doesn't run as it should, as if there's one cylinder that misses. I did a little test drive in our street and she drives nice, without hesitation and lots of power. Also, the truck still makes a smokescreen, white-grayish smoke. It's a lot less then before but still to much. Does anybody has a suggestion what to check?

And if this situation isn't enough, my business partner just drove his SUV into my right door, good for scrap.... i don't have any luck with that damn truck

Any help would be appreciated, I'm all out of idea's...

Greetz,

Bigster

Is the white smoke constant or does the amount change? White smoke could be a bad PCV valve or a bad transmission modulator valve. If you are putting out a smoke screen instead of just puffing a bluish tinted smoke try the modulator valve. These control the transmission shift points via engine vacuum, and if the diaprharm goes bad will suck transmission fluid inro the engine and give you a "white smoke scrren".
You don't seem to be having any luck at all. Sorry!

You just named two of the brands i mostly dislike
My parents bought a renault in 2005, what a piece of crap is that! I think they had to go back to the dealership about 14 times to fix things, just in the first year!
The only good uropean brands over here are VW and Mercedes

I just noticed something weird, if i take off the breather tube from my air filter and hold my finger on the tube, i feel vacuum... is this normal?
Before i changed my heads and gaskets i had pressure coming out of the breather, i do know that his wasn't good.
I did change my plenum gasket, but i think it's the only explanation for that vacuum, or does somebody have a better idea?

Greetz,

Bigster

i think so. that hose connects to the valve cover and is part of the pcv system. on the opposite valve cover is the pcv valve, which connects to the intake, which is the source of the vacuum.

as a test, you could pull unplug and cap your pcv hose at the manifold, and your breather hose should lose its vacuum.
