Default under hood insulation

What are the affects of removing the insulation on the underside of the hood? It is kind of rotting as it gets more moisture. Will running without one slowly start to hurt the paint on top of the hood? will the heat start to peel it?

Ever since mine came back from the body shop the insulation has been missing that was about 4 years ago. Since then the old truck has overheated a couple of times and been ran through hell and back. Haven't had problems with the paint yet, but hang on and let me go find a piece of wood to knock on...

Mine came from the factory without it, as did a lot of trucks. It's thus been not present for almost 10 years. No issues that I can detect.

Agreed! Don't worry about it. The sun and salt depending on where you live is your trucks worst enemy.

also heard they are there to help suppress a engine fire. the plastic clips will melt causing the inuslation to drop and smother.

that i read here somewhere.

other than that... it helps suppress engine noise.

Sound suppression! Bah more reason to remove it then!

On a serious note...like the other posts I do not have one either...so don't worry about it then.

I read on here that it falls and catches on fire. Does anybody know what its made of? If a fire gets hot enough that stuff won't stop it. Car fires spread fast i just don't see it happening
